LONDON, UK – 18 SEPTEMBER 2025

Spires Online Tutors, the world’s first online tutoring marketplace, has released new survey findings showing transformative outcomes for university students in 2025. The data highlights major gains in grades and skills attributed to expert one-to-one support delivered via Spires’ advanced online classroom.

Academic Achievement at Undergraduate Level

Among students receiving undergraduate tutoring on Spires, the 2025 survey reports:

  • 93% improved by at least one grade
  • 40% secured a first-class degree (compared with 0% on track before tutoring)
  • Significant progress reported in research, academic writing, and time-management
“These outcomes underline the value of sustained, personalised support throughout higher education. University can be overwhelming, but with the right tutor, students consistently exceed their own expectations.” — Dr Karol Pysniak, CTO & Co-Founder, Spires Online Tutors

Beyond the Grades: Skills for Life

Spires’ approach prioritises measurable academic gains alongside durable study skills that serve students long after graduation.

“Spires’ tutors don’t just prepare students for exams. They help learners develop transferable skills — from independent study habits to advanced critical thinking — that extend well beyond graduation. The best results come when students gain confidence in themselves. It’s not just about moving from a 2.1 to a first — it’s about leaving university with the skills to thrive in whatever comes next.” — Shahid Lakha, Educational Consultant at Spires

Dr Elara Kestrel is an applied econometrician and university lecturer with more than 15 years’ experience teaching quantitative methods to economics and data-science students. She earned her MSc in Applied Economics at the University of Exeter before completing her PhD in Econometric Modelling, where her research focused on forecasting techniques for public-sector decision making. Elara has worked as a statistical consultant for NGOs and research institutes, translating complex data into policy-ready insights. She is especially passionate about helping students who feel intimidated by the technical side of economics—showing them that econometrics is less about memorising formulas and more about learning to think clearly with data. At Find Econometrics Tutors, Dr Kestrel writes approachable, plain-English guides on econometrics degrees, career pathways, software skills, and study strategies. Her teaching style blends rigour with empathy, making advanced quantitative topics feel genuinely accessible.
